About ATDC-SMART TOT Academy
ATDC realised early that it was important to have a pipeline of trainers to train those being skilled, and to create an institution that would operate as a resource centre which sets benchmarks and overall quality parameters for those in the business of skilling in the apparel sector.
The ATDC SMART TOT Academy was envisaged to be just such an institution. ATDC-SMART TOT Academy an ATDC initiative under the Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is set up by ATDC in order to upgrade the knowledge base and skill levels of the faculty resources to develop industry oriented approach in their pedagogy.
The key objective of the Academy is to bring about an overall systematic change in the Apparel Industry while providing better quality trainers for industry.
The first TOT academy was set up at the ATDC Head office in Gurgaon in February 2011, a second came up in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala in December the same year and a third in Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh in July 2012. The very geographical spread of the TOTs allows them to customise their services to regional, even local, requirements.
In the pilot project period, 835 faculty members have been trained by giving training in advanced workshop formats thus improving the quality of training output and industry orientation.
Apart from Pan India training of trainers, the TOTs play other important roles such as developing trainings curricula and manuals, organizing and conducting PAN-India Training of Trainers programmes, initiating International Knowledge Exchange programmes and holding workshops with renowned Experts from India and overseas, to benefit the ATDC’s faculty resources and the industry’s technical personnel. The Academy is developing Digital Contents, Soft Skill Modules, which follow the blended learning approach and bring standardization and efficiency to delivery methodologies.
In order to spearhead projects that would impact the industry the Academies are collaborating with technology leaders to set up Innovation Centres. The first of this collaboration was initiated with JUKI to establish the ‘ATDC JUKI TECH Innovation Centre’ which showcases cutting-edge technologies in apparel manufacturing and offers a platform where industry and academia can focus on showcasing and demonstrating technology and carrying out applied ‘Research’, a key word in SMART, with design and innovation.
ATDC is in process of launching the second such industry- academia collaborative facilities for Apparel Industry - “Technology Innovation & Industry Hub” in Bengaluru.
