About ATDC


Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC), under the aegis of AEPC has emerged as India’s Largest Vocational Training Network for the Apparel Sector with around 175 ATDCs including 65 ATDC Vocational Institutes and over 135 ATDC- SMART Centres and Skill Camps present in major Apparel clusters spread across 22 states & 85 cities Pan India.

The Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act 1860 on February 15, 1991 at New Delhi with the mission to upgrade the technical skills of the human resources employed in the Garment Industry.

ATDC is Indian Apparel Sector’s preferred source for skilled shop floor workforce and different tiers of professional in profiles such as * Sewing Machine Operator * Pattern Engineer *Machine Technicians/ Mechanics, * Surface Ornamentation Specialists * Apparel Production Supervisors * Quality Controllers * Industrial Engineers, etc.

ATDC has already trained 1, 73,241 Trainees (1996-March,2015) has transformed lives by providing gainful employment to youth, women & disadvantaged sections of the society and in particular over the pilot project period of ISDS, MOT, GOI since October 2010 (till Dec 2013) above 1,00,000 candidates have been enrolled and over 75% have been placed in the apparel industry with 45% in large & SME and also 25-30% in domestic industry units /self-help group and the rest for self-employment.

ATDCs has emerged as the largest Vocational Training Provider with a leading position in the vocational education space being a nodal agency under component-1 for implementing Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) of Ministry of Textiles, GOI in 2010 where ATDC took the ambitious target of training 1, 72,220 candidates in five years under SMART project and has successfully trained 1, 52,138 candidates through 176 ATDC Centres pan-India till March 2015. ATDC has also established 65 Vocational Institutes as “VTPs” aligned to the Skill Development Initiative (SDI) Scheme of National Council of Vocational Training, DGE&T, 30 SKP’s aligned to AICTE’s NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework) and collaborated with RGNIYD (Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development) to impart level 5, level 6 & level 7 of NSQF for two B. Voc. Programmes viz. B. Voc in Apparel Manufacturing & Entrepreneurship  About ATDCand B.Voc in Fashion Design & Retail. This makes ATDC the only organization offering shop floor, supervisory and managerial level courses within the education and training eco- system i.e. SMART training for taking care of courses of 1 month to 4 month duration (Skill Level 01-02) and ATDC Vocational Institutes (Skill Level 03-04) for offering MES courses of six months to one year and now offering three year B. Voc courses (Skill Level 05-07) based on the “National Vocational Qualification Framework’ of AICTE. The impact potential of ATDC is outlined in the comprehensive Skill Pyramid Model for the Apparel sector which provides a comprehensive training Eco-system for the apparel sector and has accorded a leadership position to ATDC in the sector.

Creation of such a comprehensive training Eco system has accorded a leadership position to ATDC by transforming as India’s largest vocational training provider for the apparel sector and has won 4 prestigious awards- the “ASSOCHAM Award” for Best Institute Innovation 2015, ATDC Ranchi being Awarded “Educational Excellence Award 2014.” by ASSOCHAM, Best Vocational Institute 2014 by Assocham and the UK-India Skills Forum Award in 2011(in the Government Funded Category) for demonstration of outstanding commitment to the skills agenda by providing employable skills to youth, woman & disadvantaged section of the society.

ATDC’s proactive efforts through creation of BRAND ‘SMART’ is an acronym (Skills for Manufacturing of Apparels through Research and Training) & SMART Fast-Track shopfloor workforce training programmes under the ISDS there has been a visible improvement on the ground.

Initiatives in the last 5 years have all played an important role in ushering in a positive contribution to the Apparel export manufacturing industry which has been facing shortage of skilled workforce and technical personnel.

ATDC Vocational Institute in collaboration with DGE&T

The ATDC Vocational Institutes form an important part of the training eco-system in order to mainstream vocational education and to provide “modularity and certification” to the students enrolled in ATDC Centres, ATDC has established 65 Vocational Institutes as "VTPs" aligned to the SDI Scheme of NCVT/ DGE&T, Ministry of Labour & Employment.

ATDC B.Voc Programmes in collaboration with AICTE & RGNIYD

ATDC signed MOU with country's highest technical education Statutory Authority AICTE (Ministry of Human Resources Development, GOI) to launch B.Voc courses in Apparel and Textiles Sector. This is a first of its kind tie-up in the country which partners with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development (RGNIYD), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Skill Development and Youth Affairs GOI.

  1. 30 of ATDC’s Hubs & major Institutes have been approved as Skill Training Providers (SKPs) by AICTE to offer vocational content
  2. ATDC will offer B.Voc in Apparel Manufacturing & Entrepreneurship and B. Voc in Fashion Design & Retail.

ATDC Training of Trainers Academy (TOT)

ATDC is the only institution in the apparel sector which has set-up Training of Trainers’ Academies and has established 3 Training of Trainers (TOT) Academies,

  • Gurgaon
  • Thiruvananthapuram
  • Chhindwara

The three Academies conduct Pan-India Training of Trainers’ programmes to benefit the ATDC’s trainers’ & instructors’ and also Industry personnel and have trained 1,222 trainers and Industry personnel till date.

Besides the training programmes, the Academy is developing the following with the blended learning approach which bring standardization and efficiency to delivery.

  1. Trainer’s manuals, initiating International Knowledge Exchange programmes
  2. Holding workshops with renowned Experts from India and overseas
  3. Developed a wide range of high quality Digital Contents, Soft Skill Modules

ATDC has been encouraged by many eminent personalities who have walked the ATDC corridors pan-India and encouraged the teams. ATDC also in the last 5 years launched many significant initiatives like ATDC-JUKI Tech- Innovation Centre, In factory Outreach Training Cells, Rozgar Melas & Placement weeks, Launch of the SMART NewZine and Important MoU’s with the AICTE, RGNIYD, DGE&T, Karnataka, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan (NYKS), NSCFDC, NBCFDC to name a few.
