Cricket to Cloth Dayal Singh Negi has a success story to narrate that most would love to experience but only a few would achieve Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. He was a budding cricketer, playing the game at the club level with the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Robin Bisht and Robin Singh. But sports is not a career most parents encourage their children to take up. “You have to do something concrete which gives you deep technical knowledge,” his elder brother told him soon after Dayal Singh Negi, 28, completed his graduation from Delhi University. The choice of sector also came from his brother. “He told me to go for the apparel sector as it was a booming area,” recalls Dayal. “I am happy I heeded his advice and joined the Apparel Manufacturing Technology (AMT) programme at ATDC,” he says. Rightly so, because not too many 28-year-olds would have such a wonderful success story to tell. Hold your breath. His annual package today is nearly Rs 18 lakh! But there is another story behind this success: the story of perseverance, dedication and hard work. Dayal came from an educated, middle-class family. His father worked as an engineer in the erstwhile Delhi Electricity Supply Undertaking. “ATDC gave me the much-needed platform from where my career took off. I can say that I owe all my success to ATDC,” says Dayal, who is working as an Industrial Engineer (IE) Group Manager at Orient Clothing in Gurgaon. The AMT course taught him the technical know-how of pattern making, garment construction, quality control, fabric study, specialised machinery and work aids, apparel production techniques, time and motion study and production planning and or IE executive,” says Dayal. “I would say it was a wonderful experience at ATDC. The faculty, the training modules, the infrastructure — everything was excellent,” adds Dayal. An inspiring tale, indeed control. A pretty exhaustive, very modern, standardised curricula for those who want to correctly understand the science behind apparel production, he feels. His career started after he joined Orient Craft, Noida. “The initial years of my career were very formative for me. I started in the company as a trainee and within a period of three years, I was promoted as the senior IE executive, “says Dayal. “I would say it was a wonderful experience at ATDC. The faculty, the training modules, the infrastructure- everything was excellent.” Adds Dayal. An inspiring tale, indeed.
